I don't even admit it, but the summer is coming to an end in Northeast PA and I am pleased to announce a new 10-year contract for the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Convention Center. First Union Corp. for $1,005,000 for naming rights to the arena and announced the purchase of the arena for a total of $3.5 million in cash and in-kind donations. The new 10-year contract, which includes numerous upgrades, was announced at a press conference in front of a packed crowd of more than 2,500 fans at the convention center.

The Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Pioneers (AF2) made their first trip to the AHL playoffs last season, losing 4-2 to Greensboro Prowlers in the first round of the playoffs at First Union Arena. The Penguins have won only one of their first 13 games they have played on the road, against the Kentucky Thoroughblades, before winning 4-1 against the St. John's Flames in their second game of a three-game series.
